STATE OF ZEAN VO

Today I am glad to introduce to you the very first post of new series “We The People” on the blog. It will continue with many interviews and sharing as well as great discussion about art, design, fashion, music, lifestyle from many young and inspirational individuals that I got chance to know about.

The first issue is an interview with Khanh Hmong, a super-beautiful-coffee-shop director, a founder and editor of up coming blog about film photography, a The Beatles lover, vintage addict and a very funny friend!

Listen to his sharing about the love, passion and the whole journey of SHOOTING FILM!

Q1. Can you introduce a bit about yourself?
(Bạn có thể giới thiệu một chút về bản thân?)

Hi Zean, my name is Khanh, everyone calls me Hmong, and I am 33 years old. I am living and working in Nha Trang city, Viet Nam. I love coffee, The Beatles, Pink Floyd,… Liverpool, love wandering around cities of my country and I especially love shooting film.

Chào Zean, tôi tên Khánh, mọi người thường gọi là Hmoong, 33t. Hiện đang sinh sống và làm việc tại Nha Trang, Viet Nam. Tôi thích café, The Beatles, Pink Floyd,… thích Liverpool… thích lang thang các tỉnh thành của VN & chụp film.

Q2. How long have you written about Shooting Film?
(Bạn đã lập và viết blog Shooting Film được bao lâu rồi?)

Shooting Film was born 6 months ago. This is where I share information, guides, tips, and images about film photography to everyone.

Shooting Film ra đời đã được nửa năm rồi. Đây là nơi tôi muốn chia sẻ các thông tin, guides, tips, hình ảnh về film với mọi người.

Q3. What made you come out with the idea of building up the blog?
(Tại sao bạn lại lập nên blog này?)

I think in the digital age nowadays, people who shoot film photography and those who love to do this are having less places to share and get information from. Beside the site Lomography which is specialized in the types of film photography, I have not seen any other websites or blogs that introduce more information, tutorials or showcase art works of film photographers. I want Shooting Film to be the place for film photography lovers where they can find more news and share their works to other people.

Trong thời đại kỹ thuật số ngày nay, người chụp film và người muốn chụp film càng ít có chỗ để giao lưu, tìm hiểu thông tin. Ngoại trừ trang Lomography chuyên về thể loại ảnh film này thì tôi chưa thấy website hay blog nào chuyên giới thiệu thông tin, tutorial và giới thiệu (showcase) ảnh chụp film của các nhiếp ảnh gia chụp film tới mọi người. Tôi muốn Shooting Film sẽ là nơi để những người yêu nhiếp ảnh film (film photography) có thể tìm hiểu thông tin và chia sẻ hình ảnh của mình với mọi người.

Q4. What is the main topic of the blog?
(Chủ đề, nội dung chính của blog?)

The name and slogan of the blog which is “All Things Films” has spoken for itself. Shooting Film is about everything related to film photography and to share with everyone.

Tên của blog và slogan của blog “All Things Film” đã nói lên tất cả. Shooting Film chỉ viết về những gì liên quan tới nhiếp ảnh film để chia sẻ với mọi người thôi.

Q5. What made the blog unique?
(Điều gì tạo nên nét độc đáo của blog?)

I think “5 Things I love A Bout Film” is a project of Shooting Film, which gets a lot of attention from film photographers ranging from armatures to professionals. This is where they can share the reasons why they still keep shooting in film and why they love film to everyone. Moreover, Shooting Film also has many interviewing articles of many famous film photographers and up coming ones in worldwide community.

Tôi nghĩ ‘5 lý do tôi thích film’ là một dự án của Shooting Film thu hút được các nhiếp ảnh gia chụp film, từ nghiệp dư cho tới chuyên nghiệp. Nơi họ có thể chia sẻ những lý do vì sao họ vẫn chụp film, vì sao họ yêu/thích film… với mọi người. Ngoài ra còn có những bài phỏng vấn của Shooting Film với các nhiếp ảnh gia chụp film nổi tiếng và không nổi tiếng trong cộng đồng trên toàn thế giới.

Q6. How did you build the content of the blog?
(Bạn đã xây dựng nội dung blog như thế nào)

I usually think of the topic for each post; or find the inspiration from daily newspapers, music or events and festivals to write about things that is closed to everyday life. I then research for information related to the final topic that I want to introduce in the blog; then I choose the suitable images, which mainly are from Flickr.

Tôi thường tìm kiếm chủ đề riêng cho mình, cho từng bài viết, tìm kiếm cảm hứng qua các bài báo hằng ngày, từ âm nhạc, hoặc những sự kiện, lễ hội để các bài đăng có thể bám sát với cuộc sống; sau đó tìm hiểu những thông tin liên quan đến chủ đề mình muốn giới thiệu, rồi chọn hình đăng, chủ yếu là hình từ Flickr.

Q7. What are the challenges in the process?
(Bạn đã gặp những khó khăn, thử thách nào trong quá trình xây dựng và viết blog?)

The main challenge at this moment is Time. Since I have many other businesses so Time is important thing to me. So I make use of my free time to sketch the ideas or prepare posts to publish.

Language is also another difficulty when I communicate with photographers who are from non-English countries. I am trying my best to make this better.

Khó khăn hiện tại là thời gian. Bởi vì tôi còn có những công việc riêng nên đôi khi thời gian đối với tôi rất quan trọng. Vì vậy khi có thời gian, tôi tranh thủ lên ý tưởng, hoặc sắp xếp bài viết sẵn cho những ngày sau khi cần thì có thể đăng lên.

Ngoài ra ngôn ngữ cũng là một trở ngại không nhỏ khi tôi muốn giao tiếp với các nhiếp ảnh gia đến từ những quốc gia không nói tiếng Anh. Tôi đang hằng ngày cố gắng khắc phục nhược điểm này.

Q8. What is the achievement to you so far?
(Theo bạn blog đã có được những thành tích/ ấn tượng nào?)

To me, Shooting Film did it best to connect many film photographers to each other. Some have said that they found a lot of inspiration from the articles, and also from the featured photographers on the blog. Nowadays, while many website/blog write about digital photography, Shooting Film has marked their unique perspective, which is all about film and only film.

Moreover, Shooting Film has introduced many valuable articles, the research and creativity of other photographers to readers with the hope that people can learn and be aspired from it. It also gives opportunity to photographers to express their love to the community.

Theo tôi Shooting Film đã kết nối được với rất nhiều nhiếp ảnh gia chụp film với nhau. Một số người nói rằng họ tìm được nhiều cảm hứng từ blog, từ những nhiếp ảnh gia khác đã được giới thiệu tại đây. Trong thời buổi hiện nay, các trang web/blog đa số nói về nhiếp ảnh kỹ thuật số thì Shooting Film ngược lại, chỉ nói về film, film và film.

Ngoài ra, Shooting Film đã giới thiệu được nhiều bài viết bổ ích, những tìm tòi, sáng tạo của các nhiếp ảnh gia khác để mọi người có thể học hỏi và lấy cảm hứng. Shooting Film cũng đã giới thiệu được nhiều nhiếp ảnh gia chụp film, những người không có cơ hội thể hiện hình ảnh hay tình yêu dành cho nhiếp ảnh film của mình ở những website/blog nhiếp ảnh khác tới mọi người.

Q9. What is your plan for the blog this year?
(Bạn có kế hoạch gì cho blog trong năm nay?)

Firstly, I will try to keep the blog regularly published, research more information about film photography to share with readers and also feature more international film photographers. Then next will be some plans to give out collaboration opportunities for readers and film lovers. They can join the team and contribute for the blog, and get everyone connects to each other.

Trước mắt, tôi sẽ cố gắng duy trì việc đăng bài đều đặn, tìm hiểu thêm nhiều thông tin về nhiếp ảnh film để chia sẻ với mọi người, giới thiệu thêm nhiều nhiếp ảnh gia trên toàn thế giới. Tạo điều kiện để mọi người có thể tham gia, kết nối các nhiếp ảnh gia chụp film với nhau… và nghĩ ra thêm project mới cho blog.

Q10. What is your inspiration? Where do you get it?
(Cảm hứng của bạn là gì? Bạn lấy cảm hứng từ đâu?)

As said above, I get inspiration from everywhere. It can be from other web/blog, or from newspaper, articles on Internet. I get it from music, festivals or events to come out with articles that are most relevant to daily lifestyle. I always note down any possible ideas that I think of to be materials for the next articles.

Như đã nói ở trên, tôi lấy cảm hứng từ mọi nơi. Từ những website/blog khác, từ những bài báo, tin tức trên mạng. Tôi lấy cảm hứng từ âm nhạc, những lễ hội hoặc event để bài đăng có thể bám sát với cuộc sống thường nhật. Tôi luôn ghi lại nháp những gì xuất hiện trong đầu để dành cho những bài đăng khi cần thiết.

Q11. Can you describe yourself in the next 5 years?
(Bạn có thể miêu tả bản thân bạn trong 5 năm nữa sẽ như thế nào không?)

I think film photography has lost its attraction due to the development of convenient digital camera. Fortunately, nowadays there are still a number of young people who can find inspiration, creativity and beauty in film photography.

To me, not just another 5 years but only whenever there is no more films in this world, then I will stop shooting film, stop talking about film. It could be in a long time, very long time later, film will be dead, but I believe it won’t be in the next 5 years. “Film is not dead, it just smells funny”

Tôi nghĩ nhiếp ảnh film đã mất đi sự quan tâm của mọi người rất nhiều vì sự tiện lợi của nhiếp ảnh kỹ thuật số. Rất may, ngày nay một số bạn trẻ đã tìm thấy những cảm hứng, sáng tạo, những cái đẹp trong ảnh film.

Với bản thân tôi, không chỉ 5 năm nữa mà khi nào trên thế giới này không còn film nữa thì tôi mới ngưng chụp film, ngưng nói về film. Có thể một thời gian dài, rất dài về sau, film sẽ chết nhưng chắc chắn là không phải trong vòng 5 năm tới. “Film is not dead, it just smells funny.”
